The Story: Guardians of the Night
During World War II, the 13th Parachute Battalion started an adventurous experiment as it prepared for D-Day: enlisting dogs into their ranks. The so-called "paradogs" were spcifically trained to perform tasks such as locating mines, keeping watch, and warning about enemies. As a side job, they also served as something of a mascot and Wingman for the two-legged troops. Modern military dogs continue this legacy with patrol work and scounting, are multi-purposed special operations dogs that are still used in rappeling or skydiving operations. Just like our human soldiers, military working dogs undergo extensive training to be able to do their duties.
The relationship between a military working dog and a military dog handler is about as close as a man and a dog can become. You see this loyalty, the devotion, the protectiveness unlike anything else.
